Principal Biostatistician

The Emmes Company, LLC is searching for a Principal Biostatistician located in our Rockville, Maryland, Frederick, Maryland and/or Tysons Corner, Virginia office. Emmes provides flexibility for office location or work remote preference, dependent upon position.

Primary Purpose

The Principal Biostatistician serves as a statistical expert and corporate resource, providing high-level statistical expertise to various projects and consulting with other statisticians throughout the company. Typically serves on a large project team and is a statistical representative at project-specific meetings. Collaborates with clinical investigators to determine study design, contributes to protocol development, writes statistical analysis plans, and performs statistical analysis and disseminates study findings. Maintains expertise in state-of-the-art data manipulation and statistical methodology and is involved in writing and publication of statistical manuscripts. Presents research results internally and at external conferences. Will serve as a mentor to other statistical staff at Emmes and may supervise other team members. Develops statistical sections of proposals, and typically is involved in other corporate and statistical group activities.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with clinical investigators to determine study design.
  • Writes sections of protocols that require statistical input.
  • Reviews protocols and case report forms to ensure that protocol objectives are met and standards are maintained.
  • Generates treatment allocations in randomized clinical research studies and ensures proper implementation.
  • Leads the project team's development of statistical analysis plans and programs to perform analyses and display study data.
  • Performs statistical analyses, writes well-documented statistical code and validates application programs.
  • Implements data and safety monitoring reports to ensure participants safety.
  • Develops metrics and generates quality control reports to optimize the performance of clinical sites and the coordinating center.
  • Generates study reports to be distributed to internal and external monitoring committees and regulatory bodies.
  • Serves as a mentor to statistical staff.
  • Contributes to proposal writing by authoring sections of proposals requiring statistical input.
  • Presents analytical results internally and at external conferences.
  • Authors or contributes to manuscripts and/or scientific presentations, including statistical manuscripts.
  • Other duties as assigned


Experience
  • MS or PhD in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related field required.
  • At least 3 (with PhD) or 6 (with MS) years of related experience required .
  • Demonstrated proficiency with statistical methods and applications in clinical research.
  • Competent in SAS and/or R statistical software.
  • Strong publication record including both applied and methodological statistical manuscripts.
  • Expertise in state-of-the-art data manipulation and statistical methodology.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
