Communication Specialist

Westat is an employee-owned corporation providing research services to agencies of the U.S. Government, as well as businesses, foundations, and state and local governments. Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

Job Summary:
Westat is seeking a communications specialist who will support and promote technical assistance for large- and small-scale education projects. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge with social media, writing, marketing coordination, multimedia technology, and meeting planning and coordination (both virtual and in-person).

Job Responsibilities:
• Create and manage content for communications, using a variety of media and platforms based on knowledge of technical assistance projects and interests of stakeholders.
• Develop communications strategy and plan for each quarter along with potential messages, visuals and other online content.
• Evaluate communications campaigns and suggest efforts for continuous improvement to reach target audiences and dissemination goals.
• Utilizes multimedia technology and authoring tools to assist in the design, development, and implementation of communications, and meetings (e.g., webinars, face-to-face (F2F) meetings, or video training products).
• Provide event planning and implementation support using conference apps and on-line tools.
• Technical knowledge for event production and dissemination such as video and audio editing, Teams/WebEx/Zoom and other web conferencing services, familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, YouTube and other video platforms.
• 35% potential travel

Basic Qualifications
• A bachelor's degree in education, communications, public relations, media studies, human resources, or related fields.
• At least 1 year of experience is required.

Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, be detailed oriented and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
