Montgomery College, Central Services, has an immediate need for two (2) Full-Time Achieving the Promise Academy Embedded Coaches, position numbers #S13325 & #S13326. This is a collegewide, non-bargaining, position, Grade 27. The work schedule is 40 hours per week and may vary by semester based on the needs of the department. This position will require travel to the campuses and some evening and Saturday hours on a regular basis.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Collaborates with faculty members each semester to plan and provide embedded support services for multiple sections of courses across several disciplines.
  • Visits lectures and/or labs to build relationships with students and stay abreast of course information.
  • Observes students during lectures
  • Strategizes with faculty to identify and support students with highest need.
  • Reinforces course material through group and one-on-one tutoring, review sessions, and weekly e-mails.
  • Sends reminders to students regarding course content, and other critical areas of need.
  • Provides subject matter coaching to students individually or as a group.
  • Refers students to resources, learning centers, departments, and units at the college
  • Teaches self-advocacy skills, academic skills, and non-cognitive skills.
  • Facilitates, leads, and prepares materials/lessons for study sessions, workshops, and other student activities as appropriate.
  • Monitors coaching activity in online system.
  • Facilitates monthly coach meetings within specific disciplines.
  • Collaborates with program coordinator to prepare training materials for coaches and lead trainings.
  • Meets regularly with program coordinator to discuss program elements and case status.
  • Documents coaching activities in online system to include, coaching sessions, class visits, study sessions, tutoring sessions, and staff meetings.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a discipline taught at Montgomery College, such as accounting, chemistry, biology, criminal justice, English, engineering, physics, psychology, math or a relate field.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience at the community college level.  Experience engaging and motivating at-risk students.
  • Thorough knowledge of teaching strategies and curricular content within a particular discipline taught at the College and engagement strategies for high-risk populations.
  • Knowledge of current pedagogy in the appropriate discipline/content area.
  • Skill in verbal and written communications, interpersonal relationships, office/computer applications, leadership and organization.
  • Knowledge of multicultural student populations with varied levels of academic preparation.
  • Skill in organization, including oversight of activities related to increasing student retention and achievement.
  • Ability to use a learning management system such as Blackboard.
  • Ability to use a wide range of communication techniques depending upon specific educational or personnel challenges; to work cooperatively with others; to speak to small and large groups.
  • Ability to problem-solve, think creatively, and work with a diverse group of students and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage caseload and case files.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A PhD in accounting, chemistry, biology, criminal justice, English, engineering, physics, psychology, math or a related field.
  • Ability to teach/tutor several courses within a discipline or across two or three disciplines.
  • Experience/involvement in student success efforts that are designed to increase completion and close the achievement gap.
  • Working with students in extracurricular activities.
