WE Are


Searching for a Department Head for the Autonomy, Perception, and Cognition Department to join our Autonomous and Intelligent Systems Division within the Communications, Information, and Navigation Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. This position can be filled as either a non-tenure track Research Faculty position (Faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience) or Research and Development Engineer, Level 4 - 5.


What YOU Will Do


You will provide technical leadership and support for direct customer programs to advance technologies in the fields of autonomy, artificial intelligence, unmanned intelligent systems, cognitive computing, and machine learning; seek and acquire new business; participate in new customer development efforts and business generation; provide leadership to the department; and prepare written and/or verbal presentations and proposals.


What YOU Need to be Successful


Education: Master's degree or higher in Computer Science and Engineering or Electrical Engineering plus at least ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred experience areas:


• Autonomy, unmanned systems, artificial intelligence, and machine learning


• Experience as Principal Investigator


• Business development


• People management


Required experience/skills:


• Research and development within autonomy, perception, cognition, or machine learning


You will be subject to a government security investigation, and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
