Location: University Maryland Extension – Prince George’s County Office (Clinton, Maryland)
This position serves as the assistant to the Area Extension Director, including multiple budget responsibilities for 2- 3 offices, regular contact with county government officials and employees, problem solving and crisis management for offices in absence of AED, training and mentoring of new employees as needed. Review of Travel and TARs submitted by faculty and staff; contracts, initial position requests, preparation of Annual Reports, support volunteers, serve as IT support for offices.
Serve as administrative support to Area Extension Director including preparation and management of county budget, including all required reports and updates for 2 separate county contracts plus several grants (Americorps, Tree ReLeaf, Melwood Job Training, etc); make referrals to program areas, represent UMEPGC to county agencies and NGOs, serve as liaison to counties and University of MD for specified tasks. Coordinate with UME administration to meet the needs of staff and volunteers.
Overall management of EAC accounts including reconciliation of accounts; advise on FSNE, Master Gardener, 4-H, Ag Marketing, EFNEP purchases; advise other Administrative Assistants regarding accounting practices, office procedures, computer issues, budgeting.
Ordering of supplies, management of University accounts including credit card purchases, travel, equipment, procurement (some involving contracts), postage; work with Business Manager on the preparation of contracts for temporary and part-time employees.
Preparation of confidential correspondence and reports, including personnel actions and evaluations.
Coordinate, advise and train new administrative employees; orient all new employees in designated areas. Staff coordination to ensure office coverage.
• Bachelors degree
• Two years experience in administrative staff work.

Physical Demands of the Position: This is an office position, but occasional travel and driving to meetings is required. This position is primarily sedentary work with occasional physical exertion to lift or move paper boxes or files weighing up to 15 pounds. Repetitive typing motions involved. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas. Hearing is required to perceive information. Visual acuity necessary to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data, figures, and presentations, reviewing forms documents for accuracy and thoroughness, viewing a computer terminal, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will commensurate with experience, with base salary of $38,204.00 per year. The University offers an extensive benefits package.
