Job Description

Reporting to the Head of WP BrandStudio, the Executive Producer will oversee the production of all of WP BrandStudio's video and audio storytelling. With the ultimate goal of telling the most compelling story possible, he/she will work with the Senior Producer to establish the Production Team, including formulating workflow and task delegation, collaborating with other Studio teams, formulating the Production Team's role in the ideation process, leading creative production, hiring crews, identifying subjects, formulating and vetting budgets, spearheading shoot and post, and being responsible for the creative end-product.

This role requires someone with an extensive creative production background who is excited about branded content, documentary storytelling, innovative video formats, custom podcasting and producing for the digital space. You need a willingness to explore various verticals and to push the envelope with innovative, brand-relevant content that appeals to Washington Post's readers. An entrepreneurial mindset with experience building, structuring and scaling new video production teams is essential as this role will establish a new department within the Studio. Outstanding collaborative skills are also a must since you will need to establish the workflow with other Studio teams and have a close working relationship with project management, art direction/design, content, sales, marketing and dev teams.

What You'll Do:
  • Establish the Production Team and workflow, including structuring the team and assessing talent and resource needs
  • In response to RFPs, come up with video and podcast execution ideas that drive brand goals and appeal to Washington Post readership
  • Oversee the development of detailed creative treatments and story boards outlining creative vision and production schedule of each execution
  • Persuasively present creative vision to Sales, client and agency teams
  • Oversee and vet detailed production budgets
  • Plan production taking into account budgetary limits and creative goals
  • Identify best vendors for each facet of production and oversee their work
  • Oversee all facets of production, from pre-production to post
  • Be responsible for the final creative product on all video and audio productions
  • Research and become an expert in emerging video formats, including 360-degree immersive, interactive and volumetric video and virtual reality
  • On certain productions, scout locations, identify subjects, and write interview questions
  • Collaborate with Design and Content teams to integrate video and audio assets into custom web experiences
  • Continuously update project managers, Head of WP BrandStudio, and sales
  • Prepare assets for client feedback and approval and execute on their notes
  • Oversee senior producer and production vendors

Must Haves:
  • 7+ years of experience as lead creative producer for publisher, broadcaster or agency
  • Experience directing shoots and being responsible for final creative product
  • Branded content production experience
  • Ability to oversee all facets of production: formulating budgets; hiring production companies, DPs, editors, etc.; identifying subjects/locations; and conducting interviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee large and small crew shoots
  • Portfolio of award-winning video
  • Passion for documentary storytelling
  • Top-notch creative ideator and storyteller
  • Understand the branded content space, especially within publishers
  • Know how to find the sweet spot between journalism and advertising; and between quality and cost
  • Washington Post reader who gets the voice and tone of the publisher
  • Deadline- and detail-oriented; incredibly proactive
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Embraces a start-up atmosphere with a willingness to wear multiple hats
  • Strong teamwork/communication skills
  • Network of production companies, video directors and editors
  • Management and team-building experience for a video production department or studio
