Training and Development Specialist

Westat is an employee-owned corporation providing research services to agencies of the U.S. Government, as well as businesses, foundations, and state and local governments. Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

Job Summary:
Westat is seeking a training and development specialist who will support and promote technical assistance for several large and small scale education projects. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge with multimedia technology, instructional design, and andragogy.

Job Responsibilities:
• Present information, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, online courses, videos, and lectures.
• Organize and develop, or obtain, training materials and guides along with potential course materials such as handouts, visual materials, and online content.
• Evaluate training materials prepared by instructors, such as outlines, text, and handouts. Ability to transfer Subject Matter Expertise into actionable trainings.
• Assign training needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and/or consultation with managers, instructors, or clients.
• Content creation and management, social media marketing, community relations, communications and marketing strategy, and analytics.
• Utilizes multimedia technology and authoring tools to assist in the design, development, and implementation of trainings, courses, webinars, face-to-face (F2F) meetings, graphic or video training products.
• Technical knowledge for training efforts such as video and audio editing, Adobe Connect/WebEx/Zoom and other web conferencing services, familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, YouTube and other video platforms.
• Conference support using conference apps and on-line tools.
• 35% potential travel

Basic Qualifications:
• A bachelor's degree in education, training, communications, public relations, media studies, human resources, or related fields.
• At least 1 year of experience is required.

Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, be detailed oriented and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
