Reliability and Maintainability Engineer

Summary

The Reliability and Maintainability Engineer will perform work that applies a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of systems engineering to the acquisition process at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.

Responsibilities
  • Develop an effective Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) process that ensures the user's weapon system R&M requirements are clearly defined and achieved with agreement by the mission partner in support of the user's requirements.
  • Review the Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) and reliability standard reports.
  • Work with G081 database to check failure reporting from the field.
  • Assist with handling all DRs ensuring proper classification and adequate detail for resolution.
  • Review the overall system design baseline (architecture and interoperability requirements).
  • Review and analyze OEM technical proposals or modifications for design feasibility and system compatibility.
  • Conduct performance effectiveness, cost effectiveness, cost performance, life-cycle cost, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical and schedule risk assessments, and scheduling trade-off studies.
  • Understand applying MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria, to aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Translate user requirements into weapons system requirements, which will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test and evaluate weapons systems, subsystems and equipment for eventual fielding and deployment.
  • Perform material solution analyses leading up to design reviews.

  • Develop and collect technical data and inputs for staff summary packages and executive briefings to support coordination and signature of all associated documents for milestone approvals.
  • Analyze equipment and software deficiencies.
  • Make recommendations for equipment and software deficiency corrections.
  • Assist in developing, integrating, and testing equipment and software deficiency solutions.
  • Development and evaluation of IMP, IMS, and Systems Engineering Detail Schedule (SEDS) engineering cost estimates.
  • Perform, as required, an advisory role for program weapon system contractor source selections on all engineering related requirements.
  • Establish, implement, and adhere to LCSE processes to ensure OSS&E compliance is achieved and maintained.
  • Implementation of the SEP throughout program operations and advise the USG of pertinent shortfalls or gaps for which corrective actions may be needed.
  • Participate in value stream mapping activities and Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21) program facilitation.
  • Translate production and operational requirements into design, fabrication, and testing objectives.
  • Generate and manage configuration management, data management, and risk management processes and plans.
  • Support environmental assessments, support design reviews, TIMs, interface control meetings, program management reviews, audits, and other technical reviews.
  • Have thorough knowledge of DR procedures and processes.
  • Produce and/or review technical evaluations, engineering studies, reports, analyses, and acquisition plans and strategies.
  • Apply OSS&E and airworthiness processes, as well as assist in providing risk assessments, safety analysis and recommendations, and address high priority safety issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree and 10+ years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline OR
  • BA/BS degree and 12+ years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline OR
  • High school diploma or GED and 15+ years of directly related experience
  • Secret clearance required

  • Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone with good phone skills and a professional demeanor.
  • Previous customer service experience strongly desired.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to visualize a problem or situation and think abstractly to solve it.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
