Director of Engineering

Job Summary/Company:

Sparks Group has partnered with a financial services firm that is seeking a Director of Engineering to grow and manage their already strong, but still small, engineering team. This is a great opportunity to start from a strong foundation and define/shape the processes and culture of the entire organization. This is a Direct Hire position in Austin, TX. Responsibilities:
  • Hire engineers - plan headcounts, write job descriptions, conduct interviews, and negotiate offers.
  • Ensure delivery - estimate project timeline and staffing requirements while balancing the need for speed to market and secure, high-quality product.
  • Ship software - primary owner of release process; responsible for defining the content of sprints and releases. Ensure that pull requests are merged and deployed after proper code review and testing. Identify inefficiencies in the release process to help them move faster without sacrificing quality.
  • Product stakeholder - provide product feedback, resolve technical debt, refactor internal processes, research new technologies - all of which are critical to their success by getting projects added to their roadmap through your advocacy.

Qualifications/Background Profile:

  • 4 years of experience building and managing an engineering team
  • Knowledge of different product development and engineering methodologies and best practices
  • Great communications skills - ability to achieve consensus between engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders
