Job Description

The Manager, Program Management will oversee the program management team, as well as assist with finance, legal, and production processes and distribution operations for the WP Creative Group. The optimal candidate is obsessed with the ever-changing nature of the media landscape and is determined to help drive revenue for The Washington Post by delighting advertising clients and readers alike with creative advertising experiences across platforms, products, and media types that drive ROI for our partners. In addition, the successful candidate will collaborate extensively with Client Partnerships, Editorial, Product, Custom Content, Events, Marketing, Ad Operations, Production and Design to aid their team in bringing to life unique and innovative custom and native advertising programs for client programs. You are an experienced client services expert with a passion for coaching a talented team. This role will report to the Director of Marketing Operations under the WP Creative Group.

Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee a team of five program managers as they lead campaigns across categories and media types, providing optimal client service that drives renewals.
  • Coach and mentor team members to create individual growth paths
  • Coordinate with the team leadership, Finance, the Business Intelligence, and Client Services Management to forecast, monitor and manage revenue and expenses on a monthly basis.
  • Collaborate cross functionally to establish optimized workflow and strategic packaging strategies for branded content media plans, leveraging performance best practices and budgeting/pricing insights, where applicable.
  • Manage and optimize processes to ensure operational effectiveness, including:
    • Identifying, implementing and/or updating program management processes and tools for effectiveness across all Creative Group teams, as needed
    • Creating and monitoring workflow protocol, contracts and onboarding with freelancers and vendors to ensure seamless planning and execution of branded content programs on the pre- and post-sale side
    • Working with team leadership to establish and maintain custom creative pricing guidelines and production/legal parameters for all Creative Group initiatives
  • Monitor internal creative workflow and communications with Creative Group editorial, design, development, video/audio production teams and third-party vendors to achieve the highest quality creative deliverables aligned to best practices
  • Works with team leadership to improve processes, identify and standardize best practices, and assist with other team- and organization-wide initiatives as needed
  • Coordinates with the Sales, Ad Operations and Client Service Management teams to implement custom and native advertising standards across all platforms
  • Works with client services, performance and social media management teams to monitor traffic, engagement and promotion metrics on a weekly per-campaign basis and provide progress reports to clients

  • Proven ability to manage, coach and grow a program, project or campaign management team team for at least 2 years
  • At least 5+ years' experience directly project managing/producing native advertising content and/or brand campaigns on behalf of blue-chip clients
  • Experience liasing with and presenting to C-level colleagues and clients
  • Well-versed in client negotiation tactics
  • Experience with legal contract review process
  • Understanding of digital media and advertising industries (agency and/or publisher experience a plus)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage team and internal project priorities in a busy environment
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary, with strong presentation skills a plus
  • Capable of working proactively with multiple departments to achieve results
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, MS Word and Excel a must
  • Familiarity with project management software (Asana, Jira, etc) required
