The University consists of 16 schools and colleges, four of which receive support from New York State as part of Cornell's land-grant mission. At the Ithaca campus, the Weill Cornell Medicine campuses in New York City and Qatar, and the Cornell Tech campus in New York City, the University enrolls nearly 15,000 undergraduates and over 8,000 graduate and professional school students. Cornell employs approximately 8,100 staff and 1,600 professorial faculty members in Ithaca and at Cornell Tech, and an additional 5,000 staff and 1,700 faculty members at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. The University is governed by a 64-member board of trustees, which includes representatives from the faculty, students, staff, alumni, and New York State.

As a key leader in the new Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, the Assistant Dean of Communications will conceptualize, build and oversee strategic communications and marketing across a variety of platforms (digital and print) and units, in partnership with the Dean of the School and the Division of University Relations. The Assistant Dean is the lead communications resource and is responsible for planning, developing, directing, implementing, and executing the school's internal and external communications strategies to advance its mission and maximize visibility of the school. This individual will work with the school's departments and partner colleges (e.g, those with shared faculty appointments/programs) and with University Relations to leverage relationships with school administration and staff to proactively foster local, national and global attention for the school.

The Cornell Brooks School harnesses the university's broad disciplinary excellence in public policy, along with its innovative teaching, research, and engagement programs, to solve the world's most pressing challenges. The school's prestigious faculty apply a global, interdisciplinary, and problem-oriented focus to wide-ranging public policy issues as they explore how government choices intersect with people's lives. The school's core areas of study are data science and technology policy; environmental and sustainability policy; health policy; human security; inequality and social policy; the politics and economics of development; and race, racism, and public policy.

We are seeking a self-directed, strategic, creative and innovative leader who has demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies in the higher education, government, corporate or other non-profit sectors. Our ideal candidate will be an exceptional writer and will have editorial, interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate and gain support from diverse viewpoints. Proven ability to develop successful marketing and media campaigns, and a sophisticated understanding of marketing metrics are required. Bachelor's degree with 7-10 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in related field required.
