Mainframe Engineering Technical Lead

Position Overview:

Are you and engineer with mainframe experience? If so, this position is responsible for the planning and development of technical support surrounding technology infrastructure capabilities including Servers, Storage, Network/Voice, Middleware, Operating System and database technologies! In this role you will:

  • Design, develop, solve, and debug infrastructure software programs for software improvements and new products.
  • Develop software automation tools including operating systems, routers, networks, voice devices, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools.
  • Resolve hardware compatibility and / or influences hardware selection.
  • Provide ongoing sophisticated enterprise technical Level 3 support.
  • Employs extensive professional expertise as a generalist or specialist.
  • Develops resolutions to sophisticated problems that require the frequent use of resourcefulness and creativity.
  • Serve as the organization spokesperson on specialized projects or programs.
  • Act as counselor to top management and customers on sophisticated technical research studies and applications!

Your Impact:
  • Partners and consults with the business and technology teams.
  • Uses experience to take insightful and logical corrective measures for sophisticated deficiencies and forwards systemic proposals to leadership.
  • Provides advice to leadership on the design, development and enforcement of business/infrastructure application standards to include the associated controls, procedures and monitoring to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain project and system documentation
  • Be a strong advocate for the development team's priorities and challenge and will push back on scope-creep and negotiate timelines with the product owner
  • Engages Application Development teams to understand their initiatives/plans and integrates their plans with operating system upgrade plans
  • Plans and or advises upgrades of operating system and major components and evaluates systems improvements.
  • Identifies technical risks to planned system upgrades and works toward identifying and implementing mitigations to those risks.
  • Reviews completion and implementation of system upgrades and/or enhancements and makes recommendations to management on opportunities for improvement.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.
  • Provides mentorship and work leadership to less-experienced team members.
  • Maintains current knowledge of mainframe technology
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Ensure process improvement and participate in technical discussions/reviews.


Qualifications:
  • 8-10+ years related experience
  • Bachelor's Degree: Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business or related field
  • Minimum 10 Years validated experience in coding, designing, developing and analyzing data
  • Proven familiarity/expertise with requirements, design, development, testing, and operations of complex systems.
  • Knowledge of z/OS architectures and z/OS internals
  • IBM Mainframe System - COBOL, JCL, CICS, SQL, z/OS, DB2, IMS, Assembler, VSAM, XML, TSO/ISPF, MQ
