Primary Purpose

Reporting to the CRA Director, and a member of the Clinical Research Associate Service Group, the CRA Associate Director supports Emmes' mission of shedding light on important human health problems through scientific partnerships that result in innovative solutions. This is accomplished by ensuring that Emmes provides the highest possible quality and efficiency of focused monitoring to Emmes' projects and its corresponding sponsors that creates value to the project.

  • Coordinates the activities of the CRA service group in consultation with CRA director; may serve in one or more service group roles (e.g. functional hiring manager; training supervisor, quality representative, SOP representative) and participates in corporate CRA initiatives
  • Communicates corporate goals to the CRA group and models corporate culture through vision, action, and learning
  • Supports CRA Manager development and growth opportunities; may meet with CRA staff during orientation
  • Provides direct supervision to CRA Managers who are responsible for resource management, training, quality of service to projects, and supervising the career paths of CRA staff
  • Responsible for holding direct reports and staff accountable for high performance while promoting engagement and fostering a value-based culture of accountability
  • Identifies opportunities to improve service and increase quality and efficiencies
  • Responsible for supporting and maintaining CRA SOPs and Work Instructions that accurately reflect the standards of activities falling under the responsibilities of CRAs
  • Supports CAPA resolution for all CRA activities in a timely fashion and communicates proactively with QA representatives regarding ongoing resolution activities
  • Collaborates with the CRA Training Manager to provide internal and external training standards and manages to the training budget
  • Supports maintenance of CRA job descriptions and career paths and facilitates communication to CRA members through the Managers 
  • Facilitates high group engagement metrics (through Gallup and other means) for CRA staff
  • Assists in identifying and tracking OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) for CRA group
  • Ensures timely and comprehensive performance evaluations with direct reports, and for all staff within the CRA group in conjunction with the CRA Managers 
  • Facilitates internal and external CRA identification and project assignments meet project needs for current and future work, in collaboration with Talent Department and in conjunction with CRA Managers and CRA Hiring Manager 
  • Provides the support required to the Proposal and Pricing Department to appropriately resource and price new business opportunities for tasks within the CRA purview
  • Assesses staff resourcing across the Therapeutic and Research Units as the designated CRA liaison

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree, preferably in a scientific discipline, with at least 8 years of experience in monitoring within pharma and/or CRO
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation and communication skills are necessary
  • Highly motivated, results driven with unyielding predisposition to detail, accuracy and clarity
  • Possess high degree of initiative and the ability to work independently to drive projects to completion
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills, combined with sound business judgment
  • Demonstrates high degree of initiative and self-motivation
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, analyze situations and achieve goals
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Personnel management and project team leadership experience highly desired
