Primary Purpose

The Project Manager for Corporate Initiatives is responsible for the project development life cycle for several key initiatives in the Emmes Strategic Scorecard. The person in this role will also work closely with members of the Executive and Operations Team, who serve as Executive Sponsors of key projects. This position is expected to hold information confidential and act as a trusted confidant of Executives.

The Project Manager of Corporate Initiatives will manage all aspects of various projects of a complex nature and/or medium size initiatives by assembling a project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying needed resources, developing schedules to ensure timely project completion, identifying critical capabilities, project resources, budgets, risks and critical path issues.

  • Manage overall direction, planning, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of multiple corporate and department strategic projects across global teams supporting enterprise systems and processes for clinical trials
  • Partner with business leaders to ensure alignment of projects with business and corporate strategies, develop business case, and conduct technology needs assessment including acquisition, planning, budget, resource and demand forecasting
  • Manage and direct the day-to-day activities of projects including working with executive owners, executive sponsors, and project managers to assign resources, maintain project and communication plans, ensure appropriate scope and deliverables, provide initiative framework and artifacts, identify obstacles, mitigate risks, and monitor and provide updates on progress and health using variety of tools and mechanisms
  • Manage multiple project teams of varying sizes, complexity and backgrounds through the entire Project Development Life Cycle
  • Monitor projects to ensure initiative framework processes are being followed and project management best practices are being used, including reporting on metrics related to initiative health, completion of milestones on time and within budget, and adoption of effective change management processes.
  • Coordinate tasks and communication within and across teams, and develop presentation materials for projects and executives
  • Provide an extremely high level of customer service to stakeholders
  • Manage a highly complex business calendar with a keen sense of prioritization and time management to ensure maximum effectiveness of time
  • Develop and maintain project and technical documentation in coordination with project team and vendors, ensure completeness and accuracy with procedures, polices and best practices
  • Facilitate or lead workshops to develop efficient and effective future state workflows to streamline business processes by leveraging or recommending appropriate tools and technologies
  • Serve as a change agent champion and lead the development and execution of change management plan, communication plan, training execution, and rollout of technologies and new business processes
  • Oversee or manage vendor relationship, facilitate contract needs, RFP, licensing, invoice approval, SOW, SLA, project management, resources, and deliverables within time and budget
  • Compile and provide monthly status reports, KPIs and metrics across supported projects to executive sponsors, stakeholders and peers, including key updates, cost, schedule, status and risks
  • Serve as a member and/or chair of steering committee and governance team related to the assigned applications, ensure adherence and compliance with regulatory and security enterprise guidelines, policies and standards
  • Exercise independent discretion and judgment to solve complex problems regarding project, department or division-related work
  • Promote, develop and maintains disciplined PMO-CI portfolio and project management models and frameworks (and related tools and processes) across Emmes and its subsidiaries; ensure adherence, adoption, implementation and review of lessons learned.
  • Assist with hiring and orientation to new staff, provide coaching, mentoring and feedback to junior team members
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Psychology, Finance, Science, Business Administration or related field
  • 5+ years of project / program/ portfolio management experience with demonstrated increase in responsibility and project complexity, including managing enterprise level business and technology transformation projects as well as resource management, financial management, and/or budget analysis
  • PMP or equivalent certification and a proven track record of successfully managing projects in a fast- paced business required
  • Exceptional project management skills with ability to multitask and manage multiple projects across diverse global teams in a highly matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated planning and project management skills in implementing and managing large technology projects
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers and vendors
  • Excellent listening, communication, presentation, interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to inform, influence, convince and persuade
  • Strong skills in prioritization, organization, decision-making, time management, negotiation, mentoring, coaching and planning
  • Ability to drive to tangible results in a timely manner even when the work involves a high-level of ambiguity
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings with multiple stakeholders, including building consensus, motivation, and managing conflict
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills; with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking capability, exercise good judgement, make sound decisions, and escalate issues / decision making as appropriate
  • Experience in risk, change and scope management, and risk mitigation
  • Knowledge of clinical research and experience in biopharma or CRO is preferred
  • Knowledge of technology concepts including SDLC, process improvement, and agile methodologies is preferred
  • Experience in O365, Smartsheet or MS Project, and Jira is preferred
