Network Systems Architect Subject Matter Expert


The Network Systems Architect Subject Matter Expert (SME) has in-depth knowledge of enterprise level Defense Information System Networks (DISN) architecture in the areas of networking, systems, and the cloud environment. The Network Systems Architect SME will be a member of a team that will plan, engineer, and implement the reconfiguration of enterprise networks in accordance with DISA and other federal standards. The Network Systems Architect SME will act as the technical lead of the team and will provide technical guidance to the team members throughout all aspects of the project.

  • Provide insight and advice to senior managers and executives, concerning the strategic direction and applicability of enterprise-based networks.
  • Utilize technical area expertise to assess operational and/or technical baselines as specifically associated with the functional components.
  • Perform in-depth discoveries of networks and systems to identify overall architecture of customer's network.
  • Pinpoint network and system dependencies and other technical aspects that are key to the reconfiguration of the network.
  • Participate in logistical and technical meetings with the customer, to gain in-depth knowledge of existing network.
  • Assist in the development of Engineering Implementations Plans detailing changes required to network and server devices during execution of reconfiguration.
  • Create test plans to validate Engineering Implementation Plans prior to execution.
  • Act as Quality Assurance/Quality Control lead for project, ensuing all Engineering Implementations Plans are complete and detail how reconfigurations will be executed.
  • Develop and update system performance requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews of requirements products.
  • Perform technical reviews of architecture and design artifacts to ensure proper reconfiguration will be executed.
  • Support briefings and other presentations to customers and stakeholders on a wide range of technical and other program topics.
  • Participate in technical assessments and reviews to validate the technical approach and associated work products, designs, and implementation plans.
  • Contribute to the planning, designing and implementation of the overall architecture of enterprise level networks.

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10+ years of relevant experience designing, developing, and implementing enterprise level networks
  • 3+ years of experience with SaaS, PaaS, or other cloud based security frameworks
  • 2+ years of experience with one or more cloud-based application platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Microsoft Azure and have previous experience consulting on and architecting the implementation of a wide range of cloud security use cases
  • 4+ years of additional experience may be used in lieu of a degree
  • Additional education or relevant higher-level certifications may be used in lieu of experience, including Full Computing Environment Certifications for IAT-II IAW DoD 8570.01-M (e.g., CCNA Security, CSA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP)
  • Secret clearance required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Strong customer service and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and understand what is being described by the end user as well as the ability to explain problem resolutions when necessary.
  • Possess and maintain a valid state operator's license.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision or guidance.
  • Ability to occasionally work after hours and/or as on-call support.

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
