Let’s face it: The job market has been extremely tough the last couple of years. According to the U.S. jobs report, over 20.6 million jobs were lost in March of 2020.

But thankfully, we are starting to see several areas where unemployment rates are dropping. As of September of 2021, the unemployment rate was around 4.8% which means millions of people were thankfully able to find employment.

If you are ready for a change of scenery and are prepared to move, here are the top areas in the United States to find work and start fresh.

We’ve also shared the most recent unemployment rates, along with the cost of living percentages, based upon the national average at 100 percent.

Phoenix, Arizona

  • Unemployment rate: 6.2 percent
  • Cost of Living: 103.7 percent

In the last two years, unemployment rates have gone through the roof. Thankfully, those numbers are starting to level out, more specifically in the state of Arizona. That’s right, Arizona has a current unemployment rate of about 6.2%, which is lower than the long-term average in the United States. And that number is only continuously decreasing.

Phoenix is a booming place to live and find work for young professionals. Plus, housing is affordable. With areas like Tempe and Scottsdale close by, it’s easy to find homes in Phoenix that are within your budget.

Raleigh, North Carolina

  • Unemployment rate: 3.6 percent
  • Cost of Living: 102.3 percent

If you are set on living on the East Coast, there is no better place to consider than Raleigh, North Carolina. In comparison to other major cities in the area, rent is considerably cheaper than most of the surrounding areas. But when you start looking into the job market, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what Raleigh has to offer.

According to a recent study, Raleigh has been ranked as the third best city in the United States for opportunities for tech jobs as well as tech start-ups. This means if you are an entrepreneur looking to start your own business, Raleigh could be just the place for you.

Seattle, Washington

  • Unemployment rate: 8.2 percent
  • Cost of Living: 94 percent

With a booming information technology industry including major companies like Amazon, Boeing, and Microsoft, it’s no wonder why so many young professionals are looking to make the move towards the West Coast. While the unemployment rate is on the higher side around 8.2%, experts are only projecting it to decrease dramatically over the next year or so.

Not to mention, life out in the Pacific Northwest is more beautiful than you could ever imagine. You’ll be living just minutes from some of the most beautiful hiking and water sports you could ever imagine.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

  • Unemployment rate: 3.6 percent
  • Cost of Living: 88.6 percent

You might be wondering what living out in South Dakota would be like. For starters, you won’t have a hard time finding a job in this gorgeous Midwest state. Sioux Falls was ranked in 2019 as one of the top three best places to find a job in the United States.

South Dakota, in general, has done so well that the government is providing companies with money by paying recruiters to bring more workers in from out of state. With incredibly low tax rates and a major emphasis on skilled labor, it’s a no-brainer why so many people in the agriculture industry are heading here to look for work.

Salt Lake City, Utah

  • Unemployment rate: 3.3 percent
  • Cost of Living: 118.9 percent

Over the last couple of years, Salt Lake City’s unemployment rate was at around 4.64% while the national average was at 8.1%. Since then, that number has dropped to about 3.3%.

You can see why so many people are flocking to Utah to experience the beautiful desert mountains of Moab while being able to find a job in technology and healthcare. Companies such as Adobe Systems and Microsoft have made their way to the area, along with several other major healthcare companies.

In Conclusion

If you are on the hunt for your next employment adventure, it might be worth looking into relocating. This is especially true if where you are currently living isn’t providing you with as many employment opportunities within your field. As you can see, there are places far more affordable that provide a wealth of jobs across the country as various industries continue to increase their need and ability to hire workers.

It’s understandable that finding somewhere new to live in could be a bit daunting. But with a little bit of research and the help of a great realty team, you could be on your way to starting the next chapter of your life. Allow yourself to be open to change, and you will be pleasantly surprised at what opportunities could unfold for you in these new and exciting areas.
